Τώρα που θα σταματήσω να ανεβάζω τις μεταφράσεις μου, καλή δουλειά να μεταφράσεις μόνος σου τα υπόλοιπα.

Dear Lyta_499, I just wrote a very extensive answer in reaction to your reports and comments, but meanwhile you already deleted your account, so that was all for nothing. Anyway, here a shorter version.
First of all, credits should be respected, that is the least which translators deserve for their hard and time consuming work. Please, read the forum topic forum.opensubtitles.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=15787 for how we think about this.
After reading that, please be advised that your reports and comments are not being ignored. Admins are human beings and unpaid volunteers. They have other things to do as well, within opensubtitles.org or outside, like eating, sleeping and playing with their kids. Please understand that it can take some time before reports are being handled.
Further, if I compare your uploads with the anonymous uploads, I see no credits inside your subtitles and no credits inside the anonymous subtitles. For example, see these two:
www.opensubtitles.org/en/subtitles/7003911/the-son-honey-hunt-el
www.opensubtitles.org/en/subtitles/7003326/the-son-honey-hunt-el
The only difference is that you mention your name in the field "Translator" and the anonymous upload doesn't. You should know that many downlaods AND uploads happen automatically by software. Your name in the Translator field is ONLY seen when viewing the web site page. After downloading it is 'gone'. Many uploading programs don't even have this field 'Translator". So this is not a matter of "theft" or somebody being disrespectful.
Something similar for your comments. You wrote them on an anonymous page. So nobody gets any notification and it can only be seen 'by accident' or if somebody actually searches for it. Also, you have been writing in Greek, while only one or two admins understand Greek. Your comments were not ignored, they were just unseen.
I hope you understand a bit better how things are and that you will continue translating. If you would like your name to be mentioned as "Translator", you can submit reports for that. After an admins approves, it will be visible on the subtitle page.
But mostly I would advise you to write credits INSIDE THE SUBTITLE itself, so they cannot get lost by accident.
Evxaristoume.

Dear Admin,
I created a temporary account just to be able to reply. Thank you for your time and your reply - both this one and the one you weren't able to send. I appreciate the fact that the admins have jobs, families and obligations, but so do I, and I've spent hours translating texts that ended up being used without my permission. The truth is that I didn't expect a reply after 7-8 reports that I made on the stolen subtitles and no action taken.
I wrote my complaints in Greek in the comment section of the stolen subtitles, because the person(s) doing this are Greek. The comments and complaints in the reports are all in English.
But even now that the reply is here, I must say that it doesn't meet my standards. A long text full of technical loopholes on why the theft of my work is acceptable, and the stolen uploads will not be deleted, is just not good enough for me. I don't wish to include my name in the subtitles. Not to have my name or nickname projected into 400+ television screens every week is my choice and my prerogative. If you want to run a clean website, you are the ones who need to assure that credits for each person's work are given where they are due, or not given at all. I don't ask or expect 'official' credits, that is why I uploaded anonymously. But if I understand your forum rules correctly, even if the upload was after a login, to ensure that my work doesn't get stolen I would have to include the credits in the subtitle file. And I ask you, what prevents the thief from simply removing those lines from the srt file? Probably nothing.
I know what I wrote, and the texts uploaded by this person are not similar, but IDENTICAL to mine. They are the same texts and there's no doubt about it, whichever way you look at it. Your website seems to be lacking a process of identification of similar or identical subtitles. And is therefore unable to resolve such issues. As far as I'm concerned, these explanations are not enough for me to use it again. The end result of my reports seems to be something like: 'We're sorry for your experience, but we're not deleting the stolen subtitles'. I'm a professional translator and I speak 5 languages fluently, so I understand full well the value of a proper translation, and the trouble and time it takes. So to put it bluntly, it's your loss not mine.
Goodbye.

PS: The strongest proof of my claims will be the fact that the uploads for Greek subtitles of this particular series will stop now that I've decided not to upload my remaining translations.

Hello Lyta_499/LT499. Thanks for your reply.
The intention of my reply was not to 'justify' something which is wrong or to hide behind 'excuses'. A main reason was to explain how things (probably) happened and with that understanding, an attempt to make you feel better. Because, really, I think in this case there is no "theft" or disrespectful behaviour.
To stick to the two subtitles I gave as example, I have compared them (before I wrote my reply) and there is NO DOUBT that you are the translator of both. Except for some very minor differences (a space or different character) the main difference is just a different synchronisation. So no need to proof that.
I agree, also if credits are inside the subtitles, they could be removed. But (although still not necessarily with bad intentions) that would be a conscious and deliberate act. If credits for your work would be inside the subtitles, and another version would appear without those credits inside, that WOULD be a violation of our rules and action WOULD be taken.
You say you don't want your name inside the subtitles, to avoid it 'screaming' on screens. I like that, it is very humble and clean. And yes, you have the right to include credits - or not. But if you decide NOT to include credits, what is the problem if derived subtitles appear without credits?
In my point of view, the subtitles are not 'stolen', but being used and re-used. And that's the whole idea of opensubtitles.org: somebody makes subtitles and uploads it for others to enjoy. And another one uses it to resync it to fit another video file, and uploads it. I am a bit surprised you are upset by it. To be honest, it looks to me as if you are throwing bread in front of the ducks and surprised they eat it. If we would delete subtitles which are made without prior express permission of the translator, there would be no opensubtitles.org. And if you don't want your subtitles to be used, don't upload them. So, deleting subtitles is not going to happen, I hope you understand the reasonability of that.
If there is any other way to make you happy, for example to have your name in the "Translator" field, feel free to submit reports for that or to let us know.
And last but not least, yes, it would be sad to see you go.

While I understand your mentality - namely to keep your website running and generate traffic - I'm afraid I don't share it. Express permission is one thing, using a person's work as your own is completely another. Admitting that the translation is mine, and yet claiming that it is not theft, is something I don't understand. We obviously come from different standpoints on this. I wanted to share something I made for myself and my family with others who might have wanted to watch the same show. I never expected such disrespect, as p2p communities may not have 'express' rules as you put it, but there are certain moral standards behind them. Perhaps these standards change over time. Perhaps they're just different here. Whatever the case you are right, seeing how the website functions it's my choice whether to upload something or not. I'm sorry to say I will not. No need to reply, I don't want to take up more of your time. Thanks for clarifying, and hopefully the uploader you have chosen to support will have the cojones to finish the translations himself.
SmallBrother @
Who is using your work as their own? Nobody is denying that you are the translator. Nobody is falsely claiming he/she is the translator instead. What is stolen from you? Somebody resynched your subtitle to fit another video file. What is the disrespect? I really don't understand. Can you try to explain me?
SmallBrother @
I guess not. Once again you deleted your account.
