Sinopse: O Massacre de Nanquim (Nanjing, em chinês), comumente conhecido como o Estupro de Nanquim, foi um crime de guerra genocida cometido pelo exército imperial japonês naquela localidade, então a capital da República da China, após a cidade ter sucumbido ao ataque japonês no dia 13 de dezembro de 1937. Não há um consenso sobre a duração do massacre, embora a violência tenha perdurado por seis semanas, até o início de fevereiro de 1938. Durante a ocupação de Nanquim o exército japonês cometeu numerosas atrocidades, como estupros, saques, incêndios criminosos e a execução tanto de prisioneiros de guerra como de civis. Embora as execuções tenham começado sob o pretexto de se eliminar soldados chineses disfarçados de civis, afirma-se que um grande número de inocentes foi identificado intencionalmente como combatentes inimigos e executados depois que o massacre ganhou força. Inúmeras mulheres e crianças também foram mortas, à medida que os estupros e assassinatos se espalharam.

[ ] - City of Life and Death takes place in 1937, during the height of the Second Sino-Japanese War. The Imperial Japanese Army has just captured the then-capital of the Republic of China, Nanjing. What followed was known as the Nanking Massacre, or the Rape of Nanking, a period of several weeks wherein tens of thousands of Chinese soldiers and civilians were killed.
