1789. áprilisában az elviselhetetlen bánásmód miatt lázadás tört ki a brit királyi haditengerészet Bounty nevű hajóján. A pártütők vezetője Fletcher Christian hadnagy volt, aki az embertelen Bligh kapitányt koronahű embereivel - egy iránytű és a gondviselés sorsára bízva - mentőcsónakba ültette a nyílt tengeren. A maradék legénység a világ szeme elől elrejtőzve a Tahiti melletti apró Pitcairn szigeten ütött tanyát. A paradicsomi állapotok - no meg a minden tekintetben "vendégszerető" tahiti lányok összes bája - ellenére a kis csapat tagjai között hamarosan feszültség üti fel a fejét. Miközben Bligh kapitány csodával határos módon a mentőcsónakkal szárazföldet ér, a zendülőknek a halálbüntetés rémével kell farkasszemet nézniük, ha valaha is rájuk akadnak.
